Team Summit Bound’s Northern Adventure

We leave the comfort of home, loved ones and spring weather for Alaska this week.  The bags are packed; our departure is imminent.  What were six independent climbers have, in the last three months, coalesced into a team of friends about to put the rigorous training and preparation to the test in the Arctic.

Our schedule is subject to the weather, our health and the mountain gods’ whim.  We will adjust as needed but have an ideal schedule in mind.  Any of the possible summit days could see us retreating back to 14 camp to avoid weather up higher.

The climbing really doesn’t start until after the 1100 camp.  Before that we are only hauling the heap of gear and food progressively higher up the mountain.  The first nine miles only changes 3800 feet in elevation but with heavy packs and sleds we won’t be moving quickly.

Thanks for reading.  Until next time.

Hours slide by like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day-to-day existence – the lapses of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes – all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose by the seriousness of the task at hand.
